Region: South West
Applicant: Crewkerne Town Council
Relevant local authority area: South Somerset District Council
LNR(s): Bincombe Beeches
Ref No: SW/SM/01/07
Project duration: March 2002- May 2005

Project summary:
A grant was awarded to support project work on the site that includes reinstating Bincombe Lane. Over the last 15 years, the lane has been neglected and once upgraded it will enable the community including the less able to access Bincombe Beeches. Access all around the site will be enhanced and interpretation boards will be provided. In addition to increased interpretation, a viewing table and an updated Nature Trail Leaflet will be produced and will increase public awareness of the biodiversity and landscape.

Additional funding was awarded for tree planting to screen a new housing estate and for the installation of gates and fences. Next to Bincombe Hill is a pocket of land, which the Town Council wished to acquire as part of a SWAP scheme. Developers wish to build around 50 homes at Bincombe Hill and the community and Councils aim for 3 acres of this site to remain undeveloped and become part of Bincombe Beeches LNR.
