How to get there: The Local Nature Reserve is made up of 5 component sites that are situated in a roughly circular arrangement, and set within a mosaic of urban, wooded and greenspace areas. Starting at the most northern site, and moving in a clockwise direction, the management compartments are named as follows:
1 - Tweedale Pitmounds; grid ref: SJ 702051 postcode: TF7 4GR
2 - Hills Lane Pitmound; grid ref: SJ 701043; postcode: TF7 5UD
3 - Blists Hill Pitmound; grid ref: SJ697038; postcode:TF7 4BY
4 - Meadow Pitmound; grid ref: SJ 689041; postcode: TF7 5SU
5 - Madeley Court Pitmounds; SJ 695050; postcode: TF7 5DW
What to see: Each of the five sites comprise of naturally and artificially recolonised pitmounds, although there are some differences in the habitats which have developed.
The total area covered by the component sites amounts to approximately 44 hectares of predominantly wooded habitats.
The pitmounds are locally important legacies of the significant contribution the Madeley area made to the industrial past and heritage of Telford and Ironbridge. The sites are also locally important amenity and recreational resources providing opportunities for environmental education and enjoyment of nature and outdoor green space in an urban context.
The sites are predominately woodland, with some grassland and open water, including a disused canal.
