How to get there: Car- Barnett Road off the main A1 Barnet By Pass
Rail: Elstree & Boreham Wood, Mill Hill Broadway then bus.
Tube: High Barnet, Totteridge & Whetstone, Edgware (Northern) then bus.
Bus: 107, 251, 292, 614, 797, 306.
Scratchwood and Moat Mount are separated by the A1.
Visitor facilities: Outdoor Activity Centre providing activities such as orienteering, adventure course, camping and a permanent aerial runway.
What to see: The area was once ancient woodland, part of the larger Middlesex Forest. Moat Mount is a surviving moat from an earlier house in an area of open common and woodland. Scratchwood has areas of ancient woodland which is mostly oak and hornbeam. In the spring there are many woodland flowers like bluebells and wood anemones to see.
Look out for Muntjac deer and woodland birds.
Trees planted include Wellingtonia, Coast Redwood, Scots Pine, Irish Yew, Holm and Turkey Oak, Atlas Cedar, Swamp Cypress, Deodar, and Norway Maple.
